More about The Julie Mountford Dawson Foundation
The objects of The Julie Mountford Dawson Foundation
The Trust deed that established The Julie Mountford Dawson Foundation sets out the objects of the foundation, as follows:
To advance such charitable purposes (according to the law of England and Wales) as the trustees see fit from time to time in particular, but not limited to, helping to improve the lives of people living with cancer, and their relatives, friends and carers, for the public benefit by, but not limited to:
How will The Julie Mountford Dawson Foundation operate?
The foundation will honour and remember Julie by raising funds for issues and causes close to her heart. There were a great many of these, but the four trustees of the foundation (me, as Julie’s husband, and three very close friends) wished to recognise Julie’s long and brave battle with cancer and the positive, personal approach that she adopted to managing her illness. Julie did everything she could to live a healthy lifestyle, both physically and mentally. And the trustees believe that it was this strength of character and determination that enabled Julie to spend her last few years enjoying life as much as possible and sharing wonderful, special times with me and all the important people in her life. Certain cancer service providers played a very important role in the last years of Julie’s life and have continued to play a role in supporting me, through my grief. These include local services - Wirral Hospice St John’s (www.wirralhospice.org), Maggie’s Centre at Clatterbridge (Wirral) (www.maggiescentres.org), and Wirral Holistic Care Services, (Claughton, Wirral) (www.wirralholistic.org.uk) - and national charities, such as MacMillan Cancer Support (www.macmillan.org.uk) and CANCERactive (www.canceractive.com). These and other cancer service providers will hopefully benefit from the work of The Julie Mountford Dawson Foundation in the coming years. And we also hope that individual cancer patients and their families, will benefit directly, through grants to buy books that provide help and advice about healthy lifestyles to people living with cancer. Books that Julie found particularly helpful were Eat to beat cancer, by Dr Rosy Daniel & Jane Sen (www.harpercollins.co.uk/9780007147045/cancer)
and two books by Chris Woollams: The Rainbow Diet (for details click here) and Everything you need to know to beat cancer (click here). In time, the hope is to fund other areas of human health & well-being, and then animal welfare and environmental charities, as these were all passions of Julie’s.
